Looking To Buy A Winery

Wineries come in all shapes and sizes. Some are big and some are small but one thing is for sure, you’re not going to hear about them all because wineries are never for sale. At least that’s what we want you to think.  If you are looking to buy a winery: start here.

Are you looking for a lifestyle winery or a large production facility? Do you want a tasting room with a permit for public tours and tastings or tastings by appointment only? Are you looking for a luxurious castle in wine country or a small barn to make a barrel of wine? 50 cases or 5,000,000 cases? As you can imagine, wineries are as varied as the people who visit them and most are very private about whether or not they are for sale.

Wineries For Sale –  Bring Your Vision, Energy and Resources

You can find winery properties available on the open market: a piece of real estate with the permit to make wine, perhaps a tasting room and or a vineyard for good measure. Most of the time, these are not operating businesses, but if they are, they’re typically deep in the red. For this type of winery, you’re looking at starting a business from scratch or working on a major turn-around project. You’re essentially purchasing the real estate and assets like equipment and maybe some inventory. There may be some goodwill towards the brand name but in most cases the brand and business have little value. Thus, the reason for selling. If you are looking to buy a winery these types of wineries are not that difficult to find.

Turn-key Wineries For Sale

Well, what about an operating, profitable, reputable, growing, absolutely fabulous brand in a spectacular location kind of winery? Everything is for sale… isn’t it? Not necessarily. There are some very wealthy individuals in wine country along with some very passionate (stubborn) winery owners that have no interest in selling their business and pleasure. However, most wineries are for sale, for the right price and terms of course. Even so, hearing about a winery for sale is not something that is openly discussed or advertised for fear of hurting the business and brand. Trust me, when the word gets out… the distributors and consumers are not far behind. The term loose lips sink ships also applies to the wine business. For just this reason, wineries are never for sale… nudge nudge, wink wink.  If you are looking to buy a winery, these are a bit harder to uncover.

With that in mind, here are a number of examples of different types and variations of wineries that “are not for sale”. But, with the right amount of due diligence, confidentiality and proof of ability to perform on your part, there’s a very distinct possibility I can find what you’re looking for.

Examples of what you might find.
