Red, white, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir or something more obscure? Which AVA is appropriate, does it matter? What are the soils, what is the water source, rootstock and clones? Is anyone buying the grapes? Who does the farming?
Getting into the wine business or looking for a winery to buy?
A winery can take on many shapes and sizes, from a garage to a warehouse, to a full on Chateau or Castle. Do you have a business plan or are you making wine for fun? Do you already have wine brand? What entitlements does the winery have? Public or Private tasting, or does it allow for tastings at all? How much wine can you produce? Is the waste-water system adequate? How many events can you have? Consequently, there are many things to consider, especially when buying a winery.
