One of the most respected names in the Sierra Foothills. The winery is situated on Red Rock Ridge, at 2,800 foot elevation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains thirty miles west of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Foothills of California. A beautiful view of the mountains from our shaded picnic area surrounded by vineyards makes this a “must see spot of paradise” for visitors to this newest and fast growing wine region sometimes called the Gold Country.
The winery has approximately 20 acres of mountain vineyards ranging from 2800 to 2900 feet in elevation. Mountain vineyards are low yielding with intense flavor and outstanding character. More than 30 years ago extensive studies revealed the climate to be very similar to that of the Northern Rhone Valley of France. This was the deciding factor in determining which grape varieties to plant in the vineyards. Rhone wines have developed into the perfect grape for the area and develop in time to emulate the better wines of Cote Rotie and Hermitage in the Northern Rhone.

The Sierra Foothills AVA (established in 1987) is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the state of California in the United States. Wine grapes were introduced to the area in the nineteenth century during the California Gold Rush. Over 100 wineries are located within the boundaries of the AVA.
The Sierra Foothills AVA stretches from Yuba County in the north to Mariposa County in the south, along the western portion of the Sierra Nevada, with Amador, El Dorado and Calaveras counties in the center. Within the entire Sierra Foothills AVA, which totals 2,600,000 acres, there are five other AVAs: California Shenandoah Valley, El Dorado, Fair Play, Fiddletown, and North Yuba.
